Same Sex Romantic Love Not a Sin?

A man who claims to be a Christian from the UK has written to claim that same sex romantic love is not listed listed as a sin somewhere in the Bible. He claims to have already been converted… Already a Christian, already read the Bible cover to cover and can’t find a word against same sex romantic love, and, he says “since you can’t either, its only logical and fair to put blame on people like you who want a sin to be a sin, even if it ain’t listed in the Bible. But I don’t blame you for it as we Christians do it all the time. We all like to add our own sins, look at the mid 60s when we wanted to condemn black people, we had no Bible text to do it but did it anyway. We condemned women and drowned loads of em in the 1500s with no Biblical evidence, and today we do it to homosexuals with no Biblical texts. Is that a good thing?… I see you want to hold on to a kind of homophobic lifestyle without any Biblical evidence that you can.

While a clear and unambiguous biblical case can be made against homosexuality, it is also true that many people really do just hate homosexuals and construct their arguments against homosexual practice in order to provide a rationale for their angry feelings against them. And it is, no doubt,true that Christians frequently misuse doctrines that are true in order to achieve improper ends. And I would agree that homosexual practice is not necessarily more heinous than a lot of sins out there which are also called detestable to God .. some of which I have personally committed prior to knowing Christ. But sin is sin, and all sin is rebellion worthy of death. But you and I both are all born into a condition – the bondage to a corruption of nature which manifests itself in many sins here on earth than none of us can escape from naturally unless Christ sets us free. Being born into a condition is not testimony that this is what God desires or intends us to do, but is part of our condition in the fall. Due to our corrupt natures, I have committed this sin, and you are addicted to some other form of idolatry but both of are slaves to our fallen condition and are hopeless apart from Christ. Being natural is not not an argument for, but against something being of God because depravity keeps us from being able to save ourselves and extract ourselves from our willful sinful predicament. Fact is, we don’t want to.

Also, it is important to note that calling a person “homophobic” because they believe something is a sin is not unlike calling someone “polygaphobic”, because they believe having multiple wives is wrong. “homophobic: as a term is really nothing more than a postmodern soundbite but not ultimately effective as an argument against true Christianity. While indeed there are people who are genuinely homophobic, and that is quite sad … but I assure you ____ I am not …Jesus Christ would not have it — because it is true that I am no better and He has given me a new heart that loves the lost, including homosexuals and captives of other such behavior. Consider ______, as human beings, we see others in sin and call it a sin because the Bible does, this has nothing to do with hatred. In fact, just the opposite is the case.

Perhaps this story may help see why the term “homophobic” is innapropriate: true Christians are like people living on an island with many other tribes of people just like them. A disease covers the island from which every person on the island is dying from. One tribe has been blessed to discover the reason. That having eaten a certain delicious root – everyone on the island has contracted the fatal disease, and, at the same time, also found a certain herb or medicine that actually cures the fatal disease. The tribe sends delegates to the other tribes to let them know they can be healed by refraining from eating the delicious root and by taking the new medicine they have recently found. The tribe who found the medicine also must themselves continue taking the medicine all their life, once per week because they are in the same fatal condition as others they are trying to help. There is no hatred there for the others, and there is no looking down on them either because they both are dying from the same disease, except for this medicine that comes from outside themselves. The givers and receiver are both dependent on the medicine to live. They have nothing to boast in and are not morally superior but are merely beggars pointing other beggars to bread, so to speak. It may happen that other tribes may refuse to stop eating the deadly root and refuse the medicine and some may even refuse to believe they have a disease to begin with and be angry at those who only want to bring them health … so ultimately it is those who refuse to take the medicine are both harming themselves and others. Likewise calling homosexuality a sin is actually the most loving possible way to help people cause we can point them to Christ who can set them free. Christ also set me free from many sinful addictions that I had prior to being a Christian and He can you too.

Many sins that I personally loved were given the death penalty in the Pentateuch (Deut 18). Homosexuality is also listed among the sins worthy of death in the Law of Moses (Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13) . We no longer live under the theocracy of Israel but are now scattered through the world in all countries. But this does not mean that God no longer cares. Death, rather, is merely being put off … delayed. God is patient and commands all to repent and believe the gospel but there is a time soon coming when He will return and execute judgement for the same sins. The Lord also predicted that there would be people like you who deny the wickedness of homosexuality. In Romans 1 the Spirit through the Apostle Paul says to practicing homosexuals, “Though they know God’s decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.” In other words _____, you appear to be reading the Bible with your culturally conditioned glasses, reading into it your views. Unless you stop allowing the culture to determine your reality rather than the Bible, you will die. This is no small matter … for your 5 minutes in your political empowerment and glory you are exchanging your soul. I will earnestly pray the Lord open your eyes to this. The homophobic arguments won’t work because they are at root, disingenuous and manipulative soundbites. You are aware of the plain teachings of Scripture on the matter. You claim to have read the entire Bible and not seen this teaching. But the Bible could not be more clear.

Just as Jesus said to the unbelieving Jews in John 8, I will repeat to you, “But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me … Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.”

It requires spiritual ears to hear the gospel, otherwise men will invent every possible way to escape and suppress the plain words of God in the text of Scripture. It matters not that you show them … their ears are closed to it. Flee from trusting in yourself and the wisdom of the age. Turn to Jesus Christ. He alone can redeem you.

My prayers will be with you _______. You may not agree, but there are many people out there like myself who have genuine convictions about this and believe their conviction comes directly from the pages of Scripture, not because of prejudice or some phobia.

    It makes me sad that you promote such false teaching. Scripture cannot mean NOW what it did not mean THEN.

    The context of Lev 18:22 is v. 3 and v. 21 – pagan worship and Molech (and by extension, Ashtoreth) worship, not homosexuality.

    The context of Lev 20:13 is v.2, 3, 4, 5, all of which mention Molech, and v. 23 which references pagan religious worship, not homosexuality.

    Your unsound hermeneutic which insists on wresting the scriptures from their cultural, doctrinal, historical and religious context does great damage to the the cause of God and truth.

    Have you no shame? In the Name of God, forbear!

    As one of the editors of this blog, our intention is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, not gross immorality!

    Therefore, any links to another website promoting the wicked abomination of homosexuality and the like will be deleted just like the one on your previous comment has been!

    We will not argue with you or anyone whose mind is already made up to abide in sin against the holy God of heaven.

    Let God’s Word have the final say, 1 Cor. 6:9-11 states, “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.”

    However, for those trapped in the lies of the evil one, there is hope. The apostle Paul continues in verse 11, “And such WERE some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”

    The prohibition against homosexuality continues into the New Testament. We can also look at Romans 1:26-27–“For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.”

    Paul makes it quite clear that when men lust after other men, it is shameful, and it is sinful.

    Also, in Galatians 5:19-21, Paul lists the “works of the flesh.” Among these is “Adultery, fornicationand the like.” Basically, he was saying that “These things are sinful, and if I have left anything out–if there is anything that is like these things, it too is sinful.” He ends that passage by saying “these shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”

    “But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death”–Revelation 21:8 Obviously, God still considers some things to be abominable. Homosexuality is one of those things.

    I would urge you to consider that you have been lied to by the world. The Bible is quite clear that God considers homosexuality to be a sin–and, yes, still an abomination.

    Self-identification with any sinful sexual practice is a pretty good barometer on one’s spiritual health.

    I’m simply amazed that so-called Christians will celebrate and embrace homosexuality as though it’s simply an “alternative” sexual preference. Should the church celebrate fornication and adultery as alternative sexual preferences?

    Sin is sin and it’s no light matter. Self-identification with and celebration of sin is damnable.

    I pray that God might open your eyes to His truth.

  5. I am not too concerned over the issue of homosexuality (as some in the socially cultural Christian community have made it their life-long goal to march against). I view sin as sin as sin. One lie will banish you to an eternity in the Lake of Fire as much as a life of homosexual acts; the end result will be the same if you die in your sins.

    Furthermore, I expect those who are unregenerate to act . . . well, unregenerate! It’s the nature of sinful man. We shouldn’t be shocked then, when the unregenerate indulge in all manner of sin.

    I do, however, take issue when the “church” endorses, promotes, or accepts any sinful behavior whether it be homosexuality, adultery, lying, gambling, becoming drunk, etc.

    This is where I draw the line and will then defend truth and contend for the Faith as will the other writers of this blog.

    Does 1 Corinthians 1:6-9 not list homosexuals among the unrighteous who will not inherit the kingdom?

    Even as a fanatical dispensationalist hell-bent on discarding the entire Old Testament, its hard to avoid that the apostle Paul has got you covered here.

Um……look i know what im gona say is not gonna make you stop not likeing gay people but lisen my hole family is christian but i was never told its rong to love the same sex or both ….and we do not bleive god will send us to hell for loveing some one …god put us here to live and be happy…not be unhappy and not be true to ones self…gods the good guy and if your a good person then all will be for given…he has a plan for us all…im not sure if i like boys or girls or both…but if i am homosexual i know god will for give me

      I am afraid that you have been misled if you believe that God will not send you to hell for your sins. God did allow us life on this earth, but it was not with the purpose of being happy. His desire is that we please Him and obey Him. However, the natural man cannot please God for the very best he or she can accomplish is as filthy rags to God.

      He is a holy, righteous God and cannot stand to look upon sin. If you choose to be homosexual, the ONLY way that God will forgive you is if you repent of your immorality, your sin, and your wickedness. To repent means that you seek forgiveness and TURNING from a life of sin, you place your faith in Christ alone for salvation. The wrath of God already abides upon all unbelievers. He will not be mocked.

      You are correct. Love is not a sin, but only when that love is bound by the principles that God has ordained love should be exhibited. Homosexuality is not included. I conclude by saying that we do not hate those who choose a lifestyle of sodomy any more than we hate those who live any lifestyle that involves debauchery. It is our responsibility to share the truth in love for we desire that others might be free in Christ Jesus. We will pray that the Lord will bring you to repentance.
