It’s impossible to overstate my absolute conviction that the public education system is quite simply the most egregious soul-destroying machination ever devised by the mind of satanically inspired man. I found this excellent piece that clearly describes the stark differences between Biblical Christianity and the public education system.
It ought to be quite clear to any half-trained believer that there is no neutral ground in the battle for the souls of men. The church militant – comprised of all living Christians – is arrayed against the powers and principalities of the evil one to do spiritual battle on behalf of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, the Risen Christ.
The public education system maintains that it is “neutral” on matters of religion, yet we can see that this is philosophically impossible. Every system of teaching maintains at its foundation a system of basic presuppositions through which all information is filtered and processed, in other words it presents a worldview. The worldview of the public education system is secular-humanist rationalist-materialist atheism. Evolution is their creation myth and science – so called – is their god. This system is opposed at every level and at every point to Biblical Christianity. The two systems are mutually exclusive and hostile to one another.
Amazingly today’s Christians scratch their collective heads and wonder “what’s wrong with kids these days?” Why do they leave church after high school never to return? Why do they reject the truth of the Bible? I’ll tell you what’s wrong.
Too many professing Christians have bowed their knees to the public education Baal and abdicated their Biblical responsibility to “raise their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord”. The public education system indoctrinates children against the claims of Christ and the Holy Bible by presenting a rational-material worldview within which the autonomous reasoning of man is the ultimate authority. This worldview seeks to usurp the ultimate authority of God, and there is a discouraging amount of evidence indicating it’s quite effective in doing so.
Too many professing Christians have rejected their responsibility to “train their children up in the way they should go”. They naively believe that a few hours per week spent in church and youth group, or perhaps a bit of devotional time wedged between soccer practice and band camp will suffice to present their children with the awesome reality of the Ancient of Days. Sadly there is little parents or the church can do to compete with six to eight hours per day of anti-Christian indoctrination for the better part of twelve years. The enemy well knows that these are the individual’s formative years through which his worldview and basic patterns of thought will be crystallized and he is making maximum use of his time in the public schools with our children.
And as the Bible teaches us in Proverbs 22:6; “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” As we can readily see from the secular humanist culture that abounds in America today (thanks to the secular humanist indoctrination of our children through the public education system) this profound Biblical truth cuts both ways.
Too many professing Christians have traded their children’s spiritual birthright for a worthless bowl of worldly pottage in the form of a taxpayer funded babysitter in order to maintain two income family, a new minivan, a late model pick-up, and the brick ranch style house on the corner lot with a bass boat in the garage.
Too many professing Christian men have prostituted their wives to a dog-eat-dog working culture that’s hardened her gentle heart and stolen her time from her precious children. These men have sacrificed their families to “strange gods their fathers knew not” embittering their wives and alienating their children in the process.
Christian, it’s time to repent of your misguided ways and pull your children out of the public education system, NOW! There are alternatives. You can do it. You’re not alone. Take the first step and I’m certain that God will honor your decision to serve and glorify Him and Him alone. He will place Godly people and resources in your life and support your choice to serve Him instead of the godless public education system.
Yes, you’ll have to make sacrifices. Yes, you’ll need to adjust your standard of living. Yes, relatives friends and strangers will look at you like you have a horn growing out of your forehead. Ignore them. Trust God. It’s worth it.
You can do this. Start now by prayerfully asking the Lord what He would have you do.

I can tell you from first hand experience that the public school is corrupt, and it gets worse every year. I’m a sophomore in High School. Teachers put up with cursing, because they think it’s normal. I’ve had to learn junk like evolution and Transcendentalism. I bring my Bible to school, and there is an automatic hostile reaction to it. I speak of Christ and everyone ignores me, but I can speak about anything else and it is immediately accepted. All the other “Christians” at my school are deceived by the layed-back American idealism. One of the ads for First Priority was, “Jesus and Pancakes, what could be better?” It’s a terrible thing to have to go through… but for me there is no escape. My mother works all the time (I rarely see here and usually don’t talk to her) and my father is very secular. I’m in a position where I MUST rely on God at all times, because there is nothing else to help me.
Anyway, after that rant, I agree with what you have said. If at all possible, don’t go to a public school.

Thank you very much for that verse. I’ve been looking for it for some time. I tend to right verses on my science notes, like Genesis 1:1 and I wrote today about the wisdom of the world being folly. I know what I shall write on my notes tomorrow!

These types of posts always break my heart.
I would give anything to have my 4 children out of the rotten public school system, but my (unsaved) husband put his foot down on the subject and our children remain in public school.
My oldest son starts middle school next year, and I almost can’t bear the thought.
My husband and I were very young when we married, and neither of us was saved. I could never have imagined then that one day I would fall desperately in love with the Lord and give my life to Jesus Christ.
Being in an unequally yoked marriage has such far-reaching consequences. There is virtually nothing or no one within our family who is not greatly impacted by the spiritual inequity. Sometimes I feel so powerless in the rearing of my children. My only hope is that the Lord will honor my obedience to Him when I submit to my husband and protect my children when they are out from under my watchful eye.
I’m a little torn on this issue. My kids will start kindergarten in the fall in public schools. I thought we were supposed to be salt and light. I don’t remember the Bible telling us to stay out of the public square. I think a Christian school can be just as bad an influence on a child as a public school. My worst influences in high school were my Christian friends, and likewise I was a bad influence on them. I think we felt we weren’t damaging our “testimony” if we were engaged in sin with each other. I felt more inclined to live out my faith in front of non-Christians and Christians I didn’t know well, than my close friends(I have had alot to repent of in my youth, and I still feel the effects of my sin). I see this in churches now. Regardless of where my kids go to school. I’m responsible for raising them in a saving knowledge of Christ and to walk in His path. Likewise, I need to trust in God that he’ll protect my children and use them for His purpose and glory.
The public school system is indeed bankrupt. The true sadness of the situation is the fact that there are many true believers who are forced to put there children in a secular school due to many reasons. The real reason for this is the mythological wall of separation between Church and State that is a fictional construct.
Also, while it is important to protect children from the dangers of secularism it is also important that they are exposed to true education that does require understanding of the fallen world. Transcendentalism, moral philosophy, US Government, Chemistry, Physics are all things that are necessary to be a completely educated person. If the army of Christ is to make headway in our spiritual warfare we need strong educated leaders, leaders who understand fully the folly of false gods. These leaders need balanced education rooted in a Christian background. I came from a Christian highschool that neglected to teach me anything that was considered too “secular.” As a result my first few years at Stanford I felt like I was ignorant due to my faith and my upbringing. This led me to fall away from faith, thankfully the Lord has brought me back, but this is a situation I have seen repeated in many of my acquaintances and friends and it forces me to stress a complete and sound education. We are in a spiritual war, and for every soldier that a war needs it needs brilliant strategists and interpreters who are capable of engaging the enemy on a diplomatic level as well. This article is so true. For awhile we had our children in the public school system when we were in England and we had quite a few problems. When we decided to take them out of the system, we had a lot to help them unlearn. It has been a long slow process but the Lord has been gracious even though we do not deserve His grace.
Amy, the Lord always wants us to be totally dependent on Him! He does know your heart and that you want to home school your children. He also knows that your husband is unsaved and isn’t allowing you to do so.
As you said in your post, your hope is that the Lord will honour your obedience to Him as you submit to your husband. 1 Peter 3:1-6 deals with the wife who has an unsaved husband. It tells us that it is through the conduct of the Christian wife that the unsaved husband is won. Through her meek and quiet spirit (which God says is of great price) the unsaved husband sees that she is different.
As you submit to your husband with that meek and quiet spirit, the Lord will honour your obedience to His will and it will be done His way! I would highly recommend that you read it, commit it to memory and seek to emulate it. Ask the Lord to help you follow His word, also keep your family constantly in prayer.
In the end, the Lord is in control of the situation and will work it all out for His honour and glory. Rom. 8:28 rounds it out by saying that all things work together for good to those who LOVE GOD and are CALLED ACCORDING TO HIS PURPOSE. I will keep this in prayer with you as you seek to follow the will of the Lord.

I regards to the statement about the teaching of evolution vs creation, I do not understand why so many Christians see evolution as being in opposition to, or an atteck on, religious beliefs.
Basically, you’re teaching childeren that, well, you’ve got your atheist theory over here and you have your God-friendly theory over there. This falsely teaches kids that evolution is an inherently atheistic idea which it IS NOT.
It is not fair to teach students that you either turn your back on the faith that you’ve been brought up with in order to embrace the scientific mainstream, or to be true to your faith you have to reject modern science. This is a false choice and, unfortunately, is one contrived by Creationists, and not by evolutionists.

I see where you are coming from, and I do agree that we need to be exposed to the false idols of this world. But the public school does not just expose, it indoctrinates. I am learning, no, re-learning evolution for the 3rd or 4th time in my school career. I see the need to know of the lies, but to be forced to learn them multiple times is horrible. The one good thing I’ve gotten out of public school is that I HATE the world with a deadly passion. I HATE the cussing, I HATE the adultery, I HATE the lies, I HATE the sin, I HATE this indoctrinating prison that Satan cleverly masquerades as “school.” It’s not a place of learning, it’s a place of sin. I can sympathize with each comment in this thread. As blood bought Christians we must – in every circumstance – seek God’s best and we ought to always be on guard so as not to fall into the temptation of “sentimental theology”.
Let us also bear in mind that quite often our own definition of God’s best isn’t the scriptural definition of God’s best.

What is God’s best? God’s best is whatever brings Him the maximum amount of praise and glory. We can never add to God’s glory as though anything sinful man could do or offer could in any way increase the fullness of God’s majesty, beauty, holiness and perfection. He was, is, and always shall be absolutely all sufficient within Himself. We may find that our present circumstances are the result of prior sin.
And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin – Romans 14:23
It’s been rightly said that we reap what we sow, we reap later than we sow, and we reap more than we sow. Even though God can (and thankfully does) mercifully restore us to Him after we commit rebellion against Him, it isn’t necessarily the case that He will always remove the results of our sin. Clearly He’s under no obligation to do so for we all deserve justice, yet none of us deserves mercy.
Even so we can see that these resulting – and sometimes even tragic – circumstances are used of God in His infinite wisdom providence to shape us, mold us, and make us into His image, from glory to glory, as He sanctifies and chastens those whom He loves.
Furthermore it’s clear in this sin sick and fallen world that the many, if not most of the choices which face true believers are spiritually sub-optimal, yet it is within our circumstances that His Spirit empowers us to deliberately choose to follow the narrow way of Christ and find our joy solely in Him.
It’s my sincere conviction that we as believers most glorify Him when we find our joy in Him and Him alone despite and within our varied and unhappy circumstances. Christians often tend to confuse happiness and joy. Happiness is an emotional response to a situation or circumstances, while joy is utterly independent of situations and circumstances. This difference, though seemingly insignificant, is actually quite profound in the light of scripture.
Consider that we as Christians are charged to “count it all joy” when we are persecuted, reviled, rejected, dismissed, disdained, hated, and destroyed for Christ’s sake. We are to find our greatest satisfaction not in worldly acceptance and comfort, but in sharing in His sufferings and rejoicing that we are counted worthy to bear shame on His behalf. This not only brings much glory to God but is a powerful testimony to the lost of Christ’s all-sustaining power.
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. – James 1:2-4

The way evolution is taught in my high school, it is a completely random occurrence. That excludes God.

The Bible makes many mistakes regarding natural science. It is clear that the ancients believed in an earth centered universe; that the sun revolved around the earth (Joshua 10:13, 2Kings 20:11) and that the earth stands still (1Samuel 2:8). Do you believe that, or do you “toss it out”?
The bible is not a science book and should not be taken literally in the context of science. I don’t mean you any disrespect in any way, but I just don’t see how all that stuff can be taken seriously in this day and age… It does not go against God or Christianity to understand or acknowledge natural science.
Joshua 10:13 and 2 Kings 20:11 speak of a miracle that occured when the Creator of the universe caused one tiny portion of it to stop acting normally for a small time period. If you really believe there is a Creator, why would such a thing be hard to believe? Neither of those verses are saying that the sun orbits the earth. 1 Samuel 2:8 says God set the earth on its foundation. It says nothing of whether the earth stands still.
To the contrary, the Bible contains many scientific facts that were unknown at the time it was written. For example, it says the earth floats freely in space (Job 26:7), at a time when most people thought it was carried by a large animal.

Also, God know the end from the beginning, Isaiah 46v10, we don’t.
We do know our lives will end, but not when they will end. But God does.
All that satan is doing with people is exactly as he did in the garden of Eden with Eve, ‘Has God said..?
He still causes people to question what God has said. It has worked good for so long, so why change anything now?
Still, in case you missed it, there is no science in evolution.
Real science comes from God.
It is just that man is created, and way behind his Creator, and will never catch up to God.

Are you really suggesting that the sun moves and the earth stands still? The terms “rise” and “set” do infer action on the sun; however, they are archaic, dating back from a time when people thought that the sun moved.

The old “salt and light” argument does not hold water. Would you send your 5 year old to fight in Iraq? After all we need to defend our country. A warrior has to be well trained before he is sent out and so do our children. Just think about some of the situations you encounter in the world as an adult? Its difficult enough for mature adults to be salt and light, how can we expect little children to do it? Young children were never meant to be cast out into the world under the guise of being salt and light. Let me be as painfully honest with you as I can.
1) your 5 year old may not even be saved. How can the unsaved be salt and light?
2)If by chance you have taught the full council of God in your home and your child is saved, they are premature babes in Christ, not fully equipped to share the Gospel and disciple others. They still need the milk of the word themselves.
3) 6 plus hours away from your home everyday and being taught ideals contrary to the Bible will cause them to be converted to
secularism not convert others.
4) studies have been done that show that the majority of Christians in the public school system end up going astray and abandoning the faith.Only a very few are able to stand up under the intense pressure and indoctrination of the godless system we call “public education” Do a search on Free and Compulsory education and find out the history. They want your children and will not be satisfied until they have their minds.
I haven’t even gotten into the education aspect yet. You’ll spend a few hours every night teaching your children anyway due to all the distractions and everything being dumbed down. You might as well just teach them yourself and save you child untold harm and give them a better education.
When your child is firm in the Word,is educated, and mentally and emotionally ready, by all means send them out to be salt and light and watch them reach the World for Christ!! Send them out before they are ready and you’ll just be one of the many parents that cry “I just don’t know what went wrong!”

Again, there is nothng wrong with wanting to explore and understand the natural world around us. Nobody is “fighting against God”. We are only trying to understand the world that God has created for us!

You and everyone else who read my comment knew exactly what I meant and did not split hairs to further convince ourselves of our prejudices. A thousand years from now skeptics can analyze my comment and say:
1. Pilgrim can’t be believed because he said “sunrise” and “sunset” and we all know the earth revolves around the sun.
2. Pilgrim can’t be believed because he asked “did you catch that beautiful sunrise.” We all know that you can’t “catch” a sunrise. So Pilgrim and everything he’s said must be rejected!
You see, you will accept and reject what you want based on your presuppositions. Despite all the science found in the Bible (air currents, evaporation, flow of water, etc.) and medical aspects (washing hands to prevent spread of disease, washing oneself after touching a cadaver, circumcision on the 8th day when the newborn is less susceptible to hemorrhaging which we now offset with Vitamin K, etc) and on and on.
I truly have no desire to debate the issue of the glory of God’s creation with those who outright reject it. In fact, I loathe it. It’s like debating the colors of the rainbow with a blind man. Neither get very far.
If others choose to continue the discussion that is fine, but I find that this type of endeavor is usually a waste of time for both parties involved.

I find it interesting that so many people talk about the fact that we are still in the world and so must make sure our children go to a public school. I’ve heard 3 reasons for this:
1.) It will help to pull children into our churches from the public school.
2.) If we keep our children secluded then they won’t know how to react when they do face the “real world.”
3.) We are supposed to be salt and light to the community so therefore our children should be in the public schools.
Point number one is the reason we used for sending our children to a public school. We never saw any children come to the church from the school (due to our children attending a public school) and I have often wondered why that was. In the end, we began to realize that we were “using” our children in hopes to get more people to come to the church. This is wrong because we were not blessed with children so they could be “used” for our benefit! We must bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Eph. 6:4).
Many parents seem to think is an excellent idea and we were encouraged to think in this manner. Someone finally showed us that we were “throwing our children to the lions” in hopes that someone would come to church. Thankfully, our children were only in the public school system for 2 years.
Point number two is a misnomer in that we don’t have to have our children in a public school for them to know what is taught and to be strong in the Christian faith. What is important is that the parent/s teach the child what the Bible says and they live the life before that child. Is it easy to do? No, of course not but it is definitely worth it! We talk to our children on a daily basis about what is right and what is wrong. Of course, there are many times they make the wrong choices and sin but it is our responsibility, as parents, to correct our children in love. It is also our responsibility to seek forgiveness from our children when we are wrong!
We all have choices to make quite regularly and a lot of times we make them based on our outlook of life. The responsibility of the parent is to make sure that the children know and understand what the Bible says about salvation, hell, heaven and living a godly life that is pleasing to the Lord.
The parent must make sure that the children know when they make the wrong choice that they are sinning in God’s eyes and they MUST seek His forgiveness. The parent must make sure that the children know what is most important in life and that is ETERNITY! The parent must make sure that they mirror the Word of God and set forth the proper example for the children so the children know that what they are being taught is a reality in the parents’ eyes!
This knowledge will affect them whether they are in public or in private and if they still choose to do what is wrong then the parent has fulfilled his/her responsibility toward God. That isn’t to say that the parents will do everything right but the life of the parents will affect the life of the children. If the parents are hypocrites then the children will become disillusioned and eventually fall away because they DIDN’T see the REALITY of our precious Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. If the parents truly are trying to serve the Lord then the children WILL see the REALITY of our precious Saviour. At that point, they have a decision to make. Will they follow the truth or will they willingly follow the lie? This is something only they can choose as the parents cannot choose for them.
The third point is that we are supposed to be salt and light to the community so therefore the children should be in public school to set forth the example. I find this reason ironic because if the child has not had training in the things of the Lord how can he/she be expected to be salt and light? When we first have children we are given little heathens and it is the responsibility of the parents to disciple those heathens so they know what is right and wrong. Unfortunately, most parents don’t want to teach their children, they want the school and church to teach them.
When we were in England, we had our oldest child in the govt. school system for about 3 months then pulled him out. They were teaching sex education, evolution, and witchcraft. We spoke with the headmistress (principal) of the school and we were told that the school is the best place for the children to learn because the “school does a better job then the parents” could do. Of course, Desert Pastor being the kind person that he was basically told the headmistress that either she would allow our child a pass to skip those classes (and we would supplement) or our oldest would be taken out of the school. In the end, he was taken out of school!
Where does salt and light come into this? How can our children be salt and light when there is so much peer pressure that the children are afraid to do anything other then what all the other children do? I feel for Rabbit in that he HAS to go to the public school and he said it was a prison for him. He also said that it was not exposure but indoctrination. He’s one that needs a lot of prayer and encouragement during this terrible time for him. I’ve had all 3 of my children thank both myself and Desert Pastor for taking them out of the school system and schooling them at home. Are they perfect? No! I must say, though, that all 3 have taken a stand against other children in the neighbourhood when they know the other children are doing wrong. We know we are striving to teach our children the Bible and what God truly says in His word. We also know that these reasons for sending our children to a public school system where even the remotest possibility of them going astray due to the humanistic teachings and the ungodly lifestyles portrayed are beyond my understanding.
I also have found that a lot of parents use “salt and light” as an excuse because of laziness. It doesn’t mean that that is always the case but more times then not I find that’s what it is. A lot of times parents don’t want to have to put the time and effort into teaching their little heathens what is right and wrong because the selfishness of the parents is more important then training the children. “Do as I say not as I do” is the command of the parents to the children. For those who truly desire to teach their children and cannot do it due to an unsaved husband or other reasons similar to that, we should be keeping those ones in prayer and seeking to encourage them any way we can. Teaching and training our children is paramount to any other ministry we have! “If we lose our family then we’ve lost the most important ministry of all!” I’ve heard Desert Pastor say this over and over again and I am in total agreement with him!
In the end, the Bible both states it and the principle is there (both the Old Testament and the New Testament) that we are to be diligent in training our children to follow the Word of God. Why are the children falling away? Not because of home schooling but because parents lack the integrity and desire to do what is right before God and that is to teach their children regardless of the cost!

On the topic of being salt and light and being “in the world” but not “of it:” I was wondering if someone could post an article on the Biblical, and I’m interested in their personal as well, opinion of the correct way to interact with fallen culture. For example, I am very moved by the music of U2 and I find a very spiritual element, a yearning for God in their music that inspires me. However, I am often conflicted because I know that they are secular rock and do live a fallen lifestyle (on a tangent , I do believe that Bono is searching and I continue to pray for him!). Any advice?

The only comment that I would like to make is regarding God’s elect.
While training our children up in the way of the Lord, we do our best to instruct them, discipline them and prepare them for dealing with a fallen world. However, no degree of homeschooling, Christian schooling or even public schooling will determine a child’s standing before God on judgment day. Saints can emerge from ashes and hell-bound apostates can emerge from the most Christian of homes.
