The platitude spouting, cumbayah-singing, doe-eyed hippie Christ of the modern apostate church simply isn’t the Christ of scripture. And though He did come as a humble servant and an atoning Savior (praise God!), He is now seated at the right hand of power of the Father and is returning as a conquering King administering righteous judgment upon an unbelieving world and a worthless, vomitous, lukewarm last-days “Church-ianity”.
Furthermore we know unredeemed men are already the enemies of God and scripture is clear on this point. We also know that men who are in defiance of God are headed for hell. This being the case I’m not sure precisely where some professing Christians are concerned about “driving sinners away” to.
Since the unredeemed are already dead in their sins and their souls are on a one way trajectory straight to hell wouldn’t it be worth prayerfully offending – perhaps even shocking – them with the truth of the cross and the Gospel message? Sinful men must be driven to the end of themselves so that by God’s grace they may be empowered to flee from their sin-excusing, self-justifying, and man centered bondage of the will and flee toward the fountain of Christ’s shed blood through which forgiveness, redemption, atonement, justification and sanctification freely flow to them who believe by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. True love is a love that tells the truth. True love doesn’t seek to make unrepentant sinners feel comfortable and accepted on their way to hell. That kind of love is no love at all, in fact it’s the worst kind of hate.
Yet many have been sold this lie from the pit of hell. Now hear the Word of God:
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
43Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
44Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
45And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
27Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.
And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,
And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;
32Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
33Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
34Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:
15Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
The wickedness of the Pharisees was their self righteousness. They were guilty of justifying themselves by their own good works and were guilty of rejecting the offer of free grace extended by Jesus Christ. They trusted in themselves that their head knowledge and outward acts were pleasing to God, yet God is interested in the motives of the heart. From our attitudes flow our actions and when men’s hearts are bent on self indulgence and self centeredness (which is as natural to men as breathing air) then men will manifest hostility toward the whole counsel of God and His hard commands of repentance, submission, obedience, and death to self. They will invariably excuse their sinfulness and mask their pride behind a manufactured false “epistemic humility”. “Well we just can’t really know what God meant by that phrase”; or perhaps “We can’t be too dogmatic about such things because no one has a lock on the truth”, or some similar spiritual sounding drivel. In point of fact God’s Word is eminently objective, understandable, and forthright. Despite the breathless panting and protests of those who endeavor to enshrine doubt and idolize uncertainty God’s Word is clear and unambiguous.
I for one would certainly rather hear the sharp tongue of the truth teller than the forked tongue of the wicked one.
