HT: Watcher’s Lamp
As I’ve written before there are many common themes which are interwoven throughout the seemingly disparate emergent/emerging, seeker sensitive, purpose driven, and word faith movements.
In my article entitled “Deathwish” I wrote:
Like many other believers I’ve noticed the most common theme among the Emergent/Emerging, Seeker Sensitive, and Purpose Driven church growth apostates is their man-centered gospel. They continually look within themselves for the answers to life’s problems and circumstances as opposed to looking outward and upward toward God and seeking Him in His Word. Of course they’ll drizzle a little Jesus on top of their man-centered spiritual buffet – take what you want and leave the rest! – and they’ll flavor it with a dash of “church speak”, but in the end it’s the same old hell spawned anti-theology that the devil has been dusting off and trotting out in various forms in order to deceive sinful men for ages.
More recently however I’ve begun to notice the correlation between the aforementioned groups and the occult. Their self-esteem building workshops, their “hero within” fetishes, and their positive confessions can all be traced back to the most ancient origins of witchcraft and occultism.
I’m guessing that some of you who have just seen me compare the emergent/emerging, seeker sensitive and purpose driven cabal to occultists are grumbling a bit or perhaps shaking your head in disagreement, but don’t be too hasty. The fact of the matter is that God Almighty views rebellion against His Word in the same way He views witchcraft and idolatry. It’s my hope that by the end of this post you will see that at the rotten root of the aforementioned groups, as well as their spiritually compromising compatriots in the word-faith community, is a man-centered non-gospel of deception. They have replaced a high and lofty view of God’s revealed Word with a watered down, corrupted man-centered perversion of their own demonic design. The scriptures and the Gospel are God-centered, not man-centered and to miss this critical truth is to invert the whole of Christianity. God’s divine revelation to man is to God’s glory alone and serves to make sinful man aware of how utterly hopeless and desperate he really is apart from pity, mercy, love and compassion of the One True and Living God, the infinite Creator and Judge of the universe. Biblical Christianity is the story of God’s merit and achievement in Jesus Christ, the truth that stands over and against all the false and idolatrous religions of man’s merit and achievement in his own filthy works righteousness which represents every other religion apart from Biblical Christianity. The one true and pure religion of Biblical Christianity is God-centric and God exalting, whereas all the various streams of the one false and corrupted religion of self-righteousness are man-centric and man exalting.
Justin Peters dissects the heretical Word of Faith false gospel in this four part series.
I had a random commenter drop by awhile back who used the moniker “Rob”. Our misguided friend Rob took issue with my brief post entitled Prosperity Doctrine wherein I made the case against the word-faith fetishist’s fixation on worldly riches in contradistinction to obeying the Lord’s admonition to take no thought of such things and instead store up our treasures in heaven.
You can read our exchange in its entirety here, but in a nutshell Rob used his time (and my comment space) to passionately defend the practice of carnally focusing on – and striving to obtain – ever increasing temporal substance. In order to make his points Rob, unsurprisingly and futilely, took his position upon the shifting sands of Dominion Theology. This is a doctrine which is wholly fallacious, Biblically unfounded, and is in truth the invention of demons. It’s clear from the content and tenor of Rob’s comment that a little leaven leavens the whole lump.
Let it be known that the Word Faith adherents of the false Dominion Theology are fundamentally and unrepentantly Biblically compromised. As such they are outside the orthodox Christian faith and thus are at enmity with Christ’s true church.
It was on this key point – his grossly erroneous stand on Dominion Theology and the resultant perversion of the atonement which follows such false doctrine as surely and naturally as night follows day – that I took Rob to task in my reply:
Thanks for stopping by, Rob.
You’ve made a number of points upon which I should comment, but I’ll deal with the one which perhaps has the most far reaching and spiritually deadly implications.
I’m deeply concerned by your emphatic assertion that Christ “came to restore us to the dominion we had before sin separated us NOT FROM GOD but from our rightful place as rulers over the works of His hand.”
If one misses the entire purpose of Christ’s atoning work on the cross – which was to make the way for sinful and doomed men to be reconciled unto a Holy God by imputing His righteousness to those who by faith through grace believe on Him – then everything else is irrelevant.
I fear that by building one’s house on the shifting sands of temporal worldly concerns such as our subjective feelings, the wealth we attain, our so-called “abundance, bounty, and style”, that when the storms of life come – and they will – great will be the fall thereof. Our lives on this side of glory are but a vapor, therefore let us store up our treasures in heaven as we pass through this sin sick and dying world all the while exhorting men to abandon their sins in repentant submission to Christ.
A true Christian’s faith comes from God. It isn’t man’s gift to God; it’s God’s gift to man. We don’t exercise our faith by “believing for big things”, rather our faith is worked out by trusting solely in God and His revealed Word despite our worldly circumstances.
It’s hard for me to imagine the carnal “increase and abundance”, name-it-and-claim-it style theology being propagated by the apostles as they spread the Gospel to a hostile, contemptuous, and unbelieving world.
It seems out of place to think that the early church was busily counting the nickels and noses within their fledgling congregations as they were being fed to lions for sport and being burned alive as human torches.
It’s also hard for me to pretend that the reformers – as they were being slaughtered like cattle by the RCC for their unwavering faith in Christ instead of the Pope – gave a moment’s thought as to whether or not they would “ride into heaven with style”.
Friend, I’d like to let you in on a little secret; if there’s a tiny corner on the utmost fringe of even one small rooftop in heaven that might have enough space for a wretched and unworthy lump of sin like me then I’ll give praise to God Almighty that He made such a remarkable thing possible.
Why it’s wondrous beyond words that the Infinite Creator and Judge of the universe should open the way of eternal salvation and joy unspeakable in His resplendent presence to one such as myself.
What grace is this? What kind of God should show such care for a wicked and ungodly man such as me? Who is this God which by His sovereign will and good pleasure alone would choose to allow me to spend eternity with Him? Isn’t such grace and mercy but to His glory alone forever and evermore?
No friend, I’ll never think so highly of myself as to pretend that I can please God by my faith or works, since He alone is the source of anything of value which He may have placed within my life. If I’ve done anything according to His will then I count myself as an unprofitable servant for I’ve only done that which is my duty.
Friend, I pray you’ll reconsider this matter in the light of inspired scripture and abandon what appears to me to be a variant form of man-centered Dominion Theology in favor of the whole counsel of God.
I’d like to begin by pointing out that this post, despite its title, will not attempt to make a case for John Hagee’s error filled tome entitled In Defense of Israel. That subject has already been covered and John Hagee has been exposed for the charlatan and spiritual snake-oil salesman that he is. Now let us turn our attention to another Pastor John. Unlike the deceived and deceiving John Hagee however, THIS Pastor John is not a ravening wolf in sheep’s clothing.
In the short video posted below Pastor John Piper succinctly sums up the “Word of Faith, Health and Wealth, Prosperity” false gospel message by calling it exactly what it is: EXCREMENT.
Yet upon further reflection I found myself in a slight – and admittedly petty – disagreement with John Piper on the imagery used in his message. While his analogy is very good and quite appropriate, I don’t think he went far enough; and to be quite honest I think he did a disservice to excrement everywhere by comparing it with the Word of Faith, Health and Wealth, Prosperity false doctrine.
Hence the title of this post, “In Defense of Excrement”.
In point of fact the pernicious lie from the pit of hell known as the Word of Faith movement is actually worse than excrement because – in defense of excrement – at least it doesn’t lead men’s souls to eternal damnation in hell fire and everlasting punishment unlike the Word of Faith, Health and Wealth, false gospel of temporal “PROSPERITY”.
I realize that I’m splitting hairs and may be rightfully accused of nit-picking, but even something as lowly excrement doesn’t deserve to be disparaged by equating it with the abomination of the so-called Prosperity Gospel, which in truth is no gospel at all.
Since Team DefCon as of late has been accurately zeroing in on the spectacularly blasphemous spiritual caricature commonly known as T.D. Jakes I thought I’d take a moment to backlink to a few of my own pieces on this walking, talking, idol factory for the prayerful edification of DefCon’s readership.
From my piece entitled “Deceivers”:
T. D. Jakesgrew up in a Oneness Pentecostal denomination which denies the essential Christian doctrine of the Trinity [The Oneness Pentecostal denomination was declared a heresy by the Assemblies of God when it took organizational form in 1917]. When asked by Christian leaders to clarify if he believes in the Trinity [As defined in the Athanasian Creed] he will not clear up this matter. He refuses to give a clear answer as to what he means by “manifestations” when referring to the Trinity.
From my piece entitled “T.D. Jakes is a Sabellian/Modalist Heretic“:
It seems that some of my recent postsexposing the truth about T.D. Jakes have struck a nerve with one Dr. Pamela Y. O’Guinn. By her own report, and in violation of scripture, Dr. O’Guinn is a self-proclaimed “pastor/minister”and is clearly someone who blindly follows – and gladly prostrates herself before – the deceitful wolf in sheep’s clothing T.D. Jakes. In the midst of her confession of blind adoration and perverse man-worship of “The Bishop” the deranged doctor even goes so far in her fevered high-noon fantasies as to compare Jakes with Christ Himself, replete with crucifixion imagery no less! I must say that I’ve rarely seen such a shameless display of spiritual harlotry in all of my days.
From my piece entitled “Exposing Error: Oneness Pentecostalism“:
The above sounds like a strong statement and a serious charge that’s been leveled against the Oneness Pentecostal cult, yet it is the unvarnished truth. As some of my limited readership may recall I posted a brief series on the antics of Oneness Pentecostal heretic T.D. Jakes during October ’07,however that series didn’t provide as much detail on the manifold errors of the Oneness Pentecostal cult as it focused on the arch-deceiver Jakes himself.
In this brief post I’ll provide a brief list of Oneness Pentecostalism’s manifold doctrinal errors, and for more detailed information the reader can click the link at the beginning of this post and review CARM’s excellent resources on the cult.
The Oneness cultists, like T.D. Jakes, are no different from their spiritual “kissing cousins” in the LDS and JW camps; no one is “going to heaven” except for those who adhere to their particular cult’s brand of man-centered works righteousness soteriology, and when they are exposed to the blinding light of God’s truth as contained uniquely within the Holy Bible they will inevitably flee back toward the darkness or else show their true colors and ferociously attack like caged animals. But God Almighty in His sovereign providence has provided His true servants with more than enough spiritual weaponry to tear down every demonic stronghold that would exalt itself against the glorious knowledge of Jesus Christ:
Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. – Titus 1:9
But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine: – Titus 2:1
If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. – 1 Tim 4:6
For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. – Romans 10:2-3
But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. – Romans 6:17
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready alwaysto give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: – 1 Peter 3:15
Maranatha Lord Jesus!
San Antonio mega church pastor John C. Hagee is a well known evangelical leader, but it’s what you may not know about John Hagee that might surprise you. For example:
Did you know that John Hagee flatly refuses to preach the gospel to Jews and is on record stating as much?
His warped theology is known as dual covenant theology and is a satanic lie. As Dr. David Reagan well said this false doctrine “is one of the most convoluted forms of anti-Semitism because it is willing, in the name of love, to allow millions of Jews to go to hell”.
The Houston Chronicle reported:
“John Hagee, fundamentalist pastor from San Antonio and friend of Israel, is truly a strange fish. … The man has a mission. He’s out to attack anti-Semitism. He also believes that Jews can come to God without going through Jesus Christ.”
The Houston newspaper then quoted Hagee’s own shocking words: “I’m not trying to convert the Jewish people to the Christian faith.”
And further revealed:
“In fact, trying to convert Jews is a ‘waste of time,’ he said. ‘The Jewish person who has his roots in Judaism is not going to convert to Christianity. There is no form of Christian evangelism that has failed so miserably as evangelizing the Jewish people. They (already) have a faith structure.’ Everyone else, whether Buddhist or Baha’i, needs to believe in Jesus, he says. But not Jews. Jews already have a covenant with God that has never been replaced by Christianity, he says.”
Did you know John Hagee divorced the wife of his youth, an act which absolutely disqualifies him from continuing in the office of pastor?
Personal Freedom Outreach reports:
There are moral and ethical concerns with Hagee and a serious question as to his being biblically qualified as a pastor and teacher are not the main issues of this article. However, one very important factor should be noted. The Liberty Flame reported in May 1994 that during the time when Hagee was serving the Charismatic congregation at Trinity Church (1976) in San Antonio, he divorced his wife, resigned and married a young woman in the congregation, Diana Castro. Custody of Hagee’s two children by his ex-wife, Martha, went to her.
In a letter to the church, Hagee admitted immorality, which later became part of the court records in the custody battle. Martha later also remarried and started another family. Not surprisingly, there is a hiatus from 1976 to 1987 left out of Hagee’s web site biography.
The meaning of the phrase “husband of one wife” in 1 Timothy 3:2 ought to clear up any controversy of whether a pastor can be divorced or not. There is nothing mysterious about the Greek phrase used here which simply and literally means “one woman man.”
John Hagee frequently makes heretical statements to the effect that when it comes to “giving” YOU determine what God can do based on your “gift”. In effect his false doctrine turns the Almighty into a heavenly slot-machine who, if you hit the right combination, will spill out temporal fortunes which you can’t contain. Pastor Hagee bases his heretical teachings from a few selected OT verses in Malachi and Psalms which have zero basis in, or relevance to the church. Friend, God is not a mechanistic impersonal divine slot-machine, He’s a personal and loving Creator Who desires a relationship, not a temporal quid-pro-quo exchange of goods and services.
For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings. (Hosea 6:6)
For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. (Psalm 50:10)
Did you know John Hagee allows unbelievers and apostates to preach from his pulpit?
John Hagee frequently allows unbelieving Jews to speak to his congregation from his pulpit during Sunday services. Imagine for a moment that instead of an unbelieving Jew Pastor Hagee invited an Islamic Mufti, or a Buddhist monk, or a Hindu priest, would that be okay? Or how about a good old fashioned Catholic liturgy from the pulpit at Cornerstone Church? After the service would Hagee’s starry-eyed, brainwashed hangers-on gush over the adoration of the Eucharist and the beauty of the monstrance? Would they drive home joyously singing songs of praise to “Mary, Queen of Heaven”?
The unbelievers are bad enough, but one would hope that even the least discerning professing Christian could see the problem with having a non-Christian preaching from the pulpit of a supposedly Christian church! Nevertheless and never one to be outdone – even by himself – John Hagee parades a pantheon of apostates across his pulpit representing the entire abominable doctrinal spectrum of aberrant, heretical, and unorthodox beliefs. Kenneth Copeland, Rod Parsley, Jesse Duplantis, and Oneness Pentecostal heretic T.D. Jakes who denies the doctrine of the Trinity are all welcomed with open arms by the charlatan “Pastor” Hagee.
I’ve got to tell you, after what I’ve learned about this shameless spiritual snake-oil salesman thus far I’m half expecting at any moment for John Hagee to set up a gigantic metallic idol with outstretched arms on his stage, feed it with coals until it glows white hot, and then demand that his congregation to bring their newborn babies down front and place them into the fiery hands of his pagan god in order to obtain “the blessing”.
John Hagee is a theological train wreck, a type of unholy Frankenstein’s monster produced by the modern apostate professing church who is unfit to be called a pastor or a preacher. In point of fact he’s a shameless spiritual prostitute of the lowest order and a disgusting parasite on the true Body of Christ; a biblical bottom-feeder who ought to be roundly and soundly rebuked by true Christians everywhere.
